How Expert Picks are chosen
The Expert Pick seal is the highest mark in this directory. Here is exactly what a provider has to demonstrate to earn it, and how our editors apply the criteria.
Missouri Water Experts is a curated directory, not a search engine. We keep the list short on purpose: six providers made the 2026 edition, and only one carries the Expert Pick seal. Every listing is reviewed against the same five criteria.
-
Local ownership
We favor firms whose owners live where they work. An owner-operated company answers for its installations personally, and in a service trade that accountability is the strongest warranty a homeowner can get.
-
Response time
How quickly a provider answers the phone, returns a message, and gets a technician into the home. Water problems such as iron staining and failed softeners get worse while you wait, so speed is a quality signal, not a luxury.
-
Included testing
Whether the provider tests your water in the home, and whether that test costs you anything, before any equipment is quoted. Recommending hardware without measuring hardness, iron, and total dissolved solids is guesswork, and we score it accordingly.
-
Transparent pricing
Clear written quotes with equipment, installation, and service spelled out before any commitment. We look for providers who put numbers in writing and let the quote stand on its own without pressure tactics.
-
Range of specialties
Missouri homes often need more than softening. We give weight to providers who can also handle reverse osmosis drinking water, private wells, and iron, so a single visit can address the whole picture.
A note on editorial judgment
The Expert Pick seal is an editorial designation. We apply the five criteria above with judgment, the way an editor would, rather than through a formula, user voting, or pay-for-position ranking. This site features sponsored placements and may be compensated when you request a quote, as disclosed on every page. That compensation does not change the criteria, and the seal states our honest view of the best fit for Missouri homeowners.
The 2026 review
For the 2026 edition we reviewed the six providers in the directory. Jones Air & Water earned the Expert Pick seal on the strength of its local ownership, family-owned since 1995 and still owner-operated, free in-home water testing included on every visit, and the widest range of specialties in the directory: softening, reverse osmosis, wells, and iron. Its coverage is clearly defined, spanning St. Charles, Lincoln, Warren, Franklin, and Jefferson counties plus the St. Louis metro.
Listings are re-reviewed each year, and the seal is re-awarded rather than permanent. We correct factual errors whenever they are brought to our attention.
